Traces of Tunisia
Ground and Air Operations in North Africa, 1942–1943
At the conclusion of the North African campaign, German and Italian forces found themselves squeezed into the mountainous, canalized terrain of Tunisia. Facing advancing Anglo-American and Free French forces from the west and British veterans from the east, the Axis fought a desperate campaign of operational counter-strikes and delaying actions to hold the Mediterranean gateway.
Traces of Tunisia puts you in command of this critical operational struggle.
A DESPERATE RACE FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN
Take control of the Axis bridgehead forces or the Allied armies in a tense operational-level game of command activation, logistics tracing, and maneuvering across compartmentalized terrain.
-
Allied player: Coordinate multinational forces, leverage expanding air power, manage supply lines, and push rapidly toward Tunis and Bizerte before time runs out.
-
Axis player: Utilize inner lines, mount dangerous armored counter-offensives, destroy infrastructure, and prolong the campaign to deny the Allies an early springboard into Europe.
Every decision matters—overextend into mountain choke points without logistics, and your spearheads will be isolated; hesitate, and enemy air superiority will paralyze your operations.
DESIGNED FOR FLOW AND DEPTH
The system is built for fast turns, high tension, and meaningful choices:
-
Random chit-pull activation creates dynamic operational unpredictability and friction
-
Headquarters command ranges enforce realistic operational control over subordinate units
-
Streamlined combat resolution featuring step losses, retreats, armored breakthroughs, and column shifts
-
Modular activation mechanics featuring historical commander chits (such as Rommel Interrupts and Patton's offensive drives)
The core experience is accessible, yet layered with strategic depth for experienced wargamers.
HISTORICAL IMMERSION WITHOUT OVERHEAD
Beyond the core system, the game integrates historical realities that shaped operational warfare in North Africa:
-
Shifting supply lines represent the long, fragile logistics corridors across Algeria and Tunisia
-
Airbase control and Air Superiority systems dynamically model the growing impact of Allied air power on ground operations
-
Occupation markers and replacement trade-offs force tough decisions between unit rebuilding and campaign longevity
These elements enhance realism while preserving smooth gameplay.
FUN TO PLAY
-
Full campaign spanning up to 15 turns of sweeping operational operations
-
Sudden Death Victory conditions for decisive operational breakthroughs
-
Flexible historical setups allowing varied Allied force entry and opening deployments
-
High replayability driven by random chit draws, supply checks, and commander availability
WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE
